I'm not sure how much blogging I have left in me. It's been fun, but at this time I will not be putting up any new posts. If that changes you'll be the first to know! If you are interested in contacting me send me a message on Twitter. Thanks for reading!

This past week we've been doing a lot of making on the MakerBot. We had some friends over, so naturally we wanted to impress them. We made another whistle. Still one of my favorite prints. Also in the mix were some lego blocks, pulleys and a jewelry box. By the way kudos to Wizard23 for creating this 3D printing goodie. It is so cool.

If you're looking for a new blog to read check out The Pioneer Woman. She writes about cooking, photography, homeschooling and more. This city-turned-country gal is really entertaining. This is definitely a good site to add to your RSS newsreader. It is updated frequently with beautiful pictures and step-by-step cooking instructions. If you're a visual learner this is extremely helpful. Ree's (aka The Pioneer Woman) down-to-earth humor and friendliness makes you feel right at home.

Oh and she seems to be tech savvy too. You can find her on Twitter and Facebook.

This is definitely a favorite. What are some of yours?

A pot roast, potatoes, carrots, fresh roasted green beans and warm apple sauce with cinnamon. Is your mouth watering yet? Check out this fantastic Fall meal.

Ingredients:

-pot roast
-potatoes (chopped small for faster cooking)
-carrots (Preferably the baby ones. This way you don't have to cut them.)
-a jar or two of chunky apple sauce
-cinnamon
-an onion
-cooking wine
-a box of dry onion soup mix
-cooking oil
-salt
-pepper
-garlic
-fresh cut green beans
-a loaf of french bread

Slow-Cooker Directions:

The Roast

Coat the bottom of the crock pot with a thin layer of cooking oil. Place the pot roast in the bottom and sprinkle both sides with salt, pepper, and garlic seasoning to taste. Add chopped up fresh onions and a box of dry onion soup mix. Make sure to put in enough water to cover the roast. You don't want it to get too dry. Also add a little bit of cooking wine for flavor. Put the potatoes and carrots around the roast about 2 hours prior to serving. This time may vary depending on your cooking time and slow cooker.

The Fresh Cut Green Beans

It is important to use fresh cut green beans for this recipe. Spray some oil on a metal cooking sheet and put the cut beans on the tray. Cover the top of the beans with a coat of oil. Sprinkle them with salt, pepper, and mixed seasoning. Place them in a 450 degree oven for 10 minutes.

Simply Apple Sauce

Put your apple sauce in a microwavable container and heat it until it is warm. Sprinkle the top with cinnamon and enjoy!

Oven Directions:

The pot roast can also be cooked in the oven. The veggies seem to cook a bit faster this way. Take a large pan and put oil in it. Cook the roast on the stove top with onion and seasoning until it browns. Transfer the roast to a cooking pan, cover it, and put it in the oven for four hours at 350-375 degrees. Add the veggies about an hour before it is ready. This time may be different, depending on your oven.

Our MakerBot has printed at least 10 or more pulleys since the last post. The only problem is that some of them are ending up with little plastic pimples. Originally this problem was thought to occur because the control panel in Skeinforge was opened. We closed it and went on to print near perfect pulleys. Some time later the Bot got an acne problem. The kink is being worked out. Soon we hope to increase the production for Team Pulley.

I'm sure you all know how important it is to back up your data. We could all be reminded of it from time to time. I sure wish that I was. I nearly lost some very important emails the other day. There were hundreds of these invaluable letters. Sometimes this is all we have left of a person. Letters, pictures and memories. These three things are irreplaceable. Luckily I remembered that I downloaded them to my computer's desktop mail app. But there is much more to be done. Here are a few ways to back up your stuff.

  • Download your online documents to your computer's hard drive
  • Save your data in multiple places
  • If you want to save stuff online try an applications such as Dropbox
  • Burn a disc
  • Save your work on a flash drive
  • Make sure you make frequent backups. Mac users might want to try Time Machine
  • Save your work on an external drive
  • Invest in Network Attached Storage (NAS)
  • Have a hard copy as well as a digital copy
  • Keep your important documents in a firebox

If you find yourself in a cooking mood try making 4-5 dinners for the week and keep them fresh in the freezer. This can be done in one day. You will likely be pretty tired at the end of this culinary endeavor. This works if you have a busy week and are unable to cook when you get home from work. It is also a nice gesture if your spouse or roommate goes out of town.

If you've been reading the MakerBot Updates you'll know that we've been tweaking the plastruder for several days now. And by "we" I mean my husband. He is the engineer in the family. Problems ranged from excess plastic to not enough plastic. Oh and the plastruder itself had some mechanical issues. There was even a blowtorch involved. But after all of that we got Claus up and running again. My motto: MakerBot Make More!

HDR (aka High Dynamic Range) Photography is becoming more and more popular. If you want to spruce up the colors in your pictures you might want to read more about it. It is fun to modify your images and see what results you'll get. What is even more fun is the HDRforFree app that was created for the iPhone. You can download it from the iTunes. Simply select a photo from your phone and open it in the app. There are several color options available. When you find one that you like you can save it to phone's photo album without removing the original. If you are into photography and enjoy this app check out more from photo-friendly the guys over at Free the Apps!

Here is an example of a picture before applying the HDR.

Here is the picture after applying the HDR (below). In this case the original looks better. This one looks a bit unrealistic, but you get the point.
